In October 2009 we left the wilds of Oklahoma to visit the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It rained every day for ten days. Before our trip, we purchased a Tom-Tom and we are so glad we did. There were no arguments during the trip which invariably happens when paper maps are in use. One person is the driver and the other person is the navigator and the navigator can never seem to communicate quickly or clearly enough to the driver which way to go. (Plus just the rattling and folding of the maps can be maddening!) Mounting the Tom-Tom on the windshield worked best for us. Rather than glancing down at the dashboard, the driver could just glance sideways at the Tom-Tom while keeping his eyes on the road. Remember to update your Tom-Tom driving directions before you leave on your trip. And regarding paper maps - we still used them. We studied them at home before we left to familiarize ourselves with the route and we did take them in the van . . . we just never took them out of the glove compartment! -- We love our Tom-Tom

I bought this unit in 2009.. I turns on by itself!..called Tom Tom..Send it back, a complicated procedure.This I did..Returned a One Xl, not a One XLS. Go thru the whole procedure again.. Can't return quickly, as must be evaluated!.Geez, evaluate THEIR shipping error! Returned again, same problem..Returned again unit comes back and does the same thing, Auto turn-on. Item has been sent to Tom Tom Lab in Texas..And returning the same unit. I suggested the switch is bad, but what do I know? The customer service folk are very polite but do nothing, in this case. I will try again, maybe attempt to go to someone's supervisor this time! -- No turn on needed

Have been using this TomTom XL-S for 1 1/2 yrs and love it for both road navigation and Geocaching. If it had a longer battery life or external battery pack for foot travel it would be perfect. -- TomTom One XL-S Is great

Although it took 4 times to download the maps before it was correct, I do love this product! I also downloaded Snoop's voice and he is the perfect navigator! Burt Reynolds will be navigating my next trip! Thank you so much! -- Yes! Yes! to Tom Tom!
