I purchased another windsheild mount that was more expensive. I need a mount that will work with my I phone in it's Otterbox case. The previous one, and this one, both have side arms that will grab the Otterbox. The second day I had the other brand, the phone holder snapped off in my hand as I tried to make a minor adjustment in the angle of the phone. DANG! That one went back, I got a refund. After reading many many reviews, I found that all of these windshield mount holders break, some more quickly than others. So I decided to purchase the cheapest one, to minimize my losses. I like this one pretty well. The arm is more flexible than the original one, and I am careful to try to grab the arm and the holder when I adjust the angle, but because this arm is more flexible, it's easier to adjust. This one will adjust to verticle or horizontal, and has a locking pin that works very nicely. Yes, it bounces more than the other item, but this one is going on two weeks and hasn't broken. Both this one and the other grab the phone, but don't want to let go (the button for release doesn't work after the first few days) but the Otterbox is soft on the outside and I can pull it out without messing up the phone or the holder.
But here's the mysterious part: Both this holder and the one that lasted a day and a half have this problem. In a cold car, with the humidity level just right, if you are not properly in line with the earth's magnetic poles (yes, I am kidding) the touch screen simply does not react to touch. There seems to be a problem with the capacitance detection system, perhaps because the holder is attached to the windsheild glass, and it insulates the phone and holder from you and the capacitance of the car. I found that rubbing the neck of the holder up and down (which looks VERY strange in traffic and might get you arrested) sometimes would create a capacitive differential. I finally figured out that plugging the phone in to it's charger properly grounded it, and I don't have touch detection problems when it is attached to the charger. But if you don't plug your phone into the charger, you will find that, at times, the phone simply does not detect your inputs, and that is VERY frustrating indeed. -- Good unit, but with a MYSTERY
