I received the Magellan 1340 as a gift and it is the first GPS unit (other than my phone which is limited) that I have used or own. I was somewhat apprehensive of the unit at first, as my wife has a Garmi Nuvi GPS which she likes a lot. I have been very pleased with the Magellan 1340 for the two weeks I have had it. It's very easy and intuitive to use and you only need the manual for some one time settings and rarely used commands. Inputting locations by address or points of interest by name are a breeze on the unit and I have benn able to have the unit identify everything I've input. I registered the unit at [...] when I received it and downloaded the latest software update 2.2 and I have had NO problem with the spoken street names or any of the turn by turn audio. I have the audio turned up about half the way and the audio level is perfect for me.
Visibility of the display in bright sunlight is somewhat of an issue but I purchased HDFMB-2: i.Trek V2 Open Front Heavy Duty Friction Mount Base and I can position this mount on my dashboard to minimize the problem.
All in all I have been very pleased with the unit to date and would recommend it to others. -- A Great GPS!
