User Reviews about Garmin nüvi 265 265T 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic
I have owned Mio C220 before and 265T is my second one. I've noticed that 265T has better hardware over Mio with better battery and FM (traffic) antenna. However, software lacks features including the must haves if traveling to a distant/ unknown area.
1. 'Points of interest' category is poor designed. Limited listing -lists POIs only in a range, hangs or works extremely slow if it cant readily find a listing.
2. 'Map browsing' sucks - very tough to select a point on the map and get directions.
3. total distance, total time, shortest time route, maximize freeways, etc listings not readily available
I'm guessing the same S/W issues would exist with rest of the Garmin products. However, this is perhaps the cheapest GPS with traffic feature. I live in LA, I need traffic info.
-- Good hardware, bad software, budget GPS with traffic info
We had purchased this GPS a year ago and it's a basic GPS with a great feature, the Traffic notification/detour capability.
Few days ago, we took a trip into Boston, about 50 minutes drive with no traffic. Checking the Google map traffic feature showed very heavy traffic on Rt93 N where it branched off from Rt 95 as well as the lower part of the Southeast Expressway (Rt 3).
When programmed for Chinatown as the destination, the GPS reported no traffic on route. I though something must be wrong. We then looked at the detailed route and saw it took some local streets and bypassed the heaviest section of Rt93 and got us back on to Southeast Expressway north of the congestion.
Even though about 1/4 of the drive was local street, the detour took an extra 10 minutes compare to a no traffic highway drive. When we drove over Rt93 at speed, we looked down and saw bumper to bumper traffic as far as we could see.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. I would prefer no one buys this GPS because it would put more people on the same road I took.
Aside from that, it does what it's asked and have no problems so far. It's a great price for a simple GPS with a great feature.

I love this little gadget! It has many great options. It helps you find locations that are of interest to you (i.e. banks, atms, post office, restaurants, gas stations, etc)
I like how it tells you which side of the street your destination is located on. -- Consumer Reports Recommended
It is accurate in giving directions most of the time. But I suspect that the maps will need to be updated in a year or two. There are some routes that I take going within New Jersey where it flakes out a little bit because the actual roads have changed and these changes are not reflected in the map. For instance, it would talk about streets that have been turned into a roundabout so the directions will no longer be accurate. I have experienced this a couple of times(in different locations in New York and New Jersey) since I bought it about a month ago. So I'm guessing that the maps are not newly updated as of Feb 2010.
For some odd reason, I notice that it works slower when I'm in New York city. When I make a wrong turn, it is suppose to detect that and recalculate the route to lead me to my destination. But it would take a while to recognize that I'm already off course (which is anywhere between 10-30 seconds) and then a little while longer for it to recalculate my new route. This doesn't happen all the time though. But it happens to me more often than not when I'm in the city.
Despite all these, I love this gadget. I never leave home without it. I always find what I'm looking for and the routes that it comes up with are pretty convenient and usually relatively light on traffic. It's small enough to fit in my pocket but the screen is big enough for me to see it clearly while driving. The time it takes for the map to load up is pretty decent (less than minute). It only takes maybe 10 seconds for the map to load up if it is opened in the location where it was last used. -- Well worth it
